The design responds to the context of the quiet coastal town with predominantly late 20^th century suburban housing by combining familiar building forms and volumes with a modern yet restrained material palette reminiscent of beach houses from childhood.

The presentation to the street frontage is strong, and the striking yet simple building form has been located to the north of the site to maximize privacy and northern daylight access into each of the secluded courtyards and living spaces.

Private areas such as bedrooms and amenities are located within brick-clad volumes to reinforce privacy, and attention has been paid to create as much open living space as possible, formed between the solid volumes, in each of the three houses.
